Practicum Opportunities
Masters-level students in the fields of social work and counseling should contact Ryan Patterson to learn about available practicum opportunities at Youth In Need. Practicum students gain experience with individual, family and group counseling, as well as case management, advocacy, networking and play therapy. Youth In Need requires a two-semester commitment. Internship Opportunities
Undergraduate-level students should contact Beth Butcher to learn about available internship opportunities at Youth In Need. Interns can gain experience in a variety of fields, both administrative and client-based. Youth In Need does not include undergraduate-level students in its counseling programs.
Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities
Love to be in the kitchen? Put your cooking skills to use preparing a meal for our kids.
Have a busy schedule? Help with “Safe Place” site checks. Volunteer at your convenience and help ensure that our “Safe Place” locations are ready to help youth in crisis in our community.
Get your hands dirty! Help care for our beautiful Monsanto Fund Science Discovery Garden and the grounds at our various sites. We’re in six counties, so there is likely a location near you. We welcome creative improvements to existing landscaping.
Be a friendly face at youth events and resource fairs.
Have a knack for helping kids learn? Enhance the learning experience of children, ages infant to 5, as a Head Start Classroom Assistant. We have multiple locations and shifts available to fit your schedule any day of the week.
Looking for an opportunity before or after work? Become an “Out-of-School Time” Volunteer! Tutor, play and interact with children, ages 5 to 12, in our before- and after-school program. This opportunity is available at eight different St. Louis City Elementary Schools Monday-Friday. Volunteer each week or once a month.
Love to shop? Come out to our NEW Potentials Resale Boutique! Design displays, greet customers, prepare merchandise for the sales floor, work as cashier, pick up new donations in our box truck, and more. Potentials also accepts donations of home furnishings and decor, clothing for ladies, men, teens as well as fashion accessories.
Help us get organized! Come in to help organize our wonderful community donations!. We are in need of helping hands on the second Tuesday and fourth Thursday of each month.
Hold a donation drive with your office, school, church or community group! Youth In Need will provide flyers, and we will come pick up the donations for you!
Join us in the office! Your time is a huge gift to us. Help with everything from answering phones to filing.
Want to volunteer with other 20- and 30-somethings? Join our Young Professionals Group. Through networking, volunteering with our youth and organizing creative fundraising events (like trivia nights and bus trips to Fast Eddies), Future Leaders – Youth In Need, our young professionals group, is committed to making a positive change in our community.
Help us reach homeless and runaway youth by providing support to our Street Outreach team.
Handy around the house? Helping hands are needed to assist with building maintenance and general repairs.
Share your knowledge. We are always learning at Youth In Need. Professionals and agencies dealing with topics such as physical/occupational therapy, mental health, medicine, health, nutrition, pedestrian safety and financial literacy are needed to provide services and trainings to children, teens, families and staff.
